Goal: Step-by-step guidance to set up your Trezor hardware wallet, establish secure backups, and understand first-run security best practices.
When your Trezor arrives, inspect the packaging for tamper-evidence. Confirm the device model matches your order and that the tamper seal (if present) looks intact — do not proceed if anything seems off.
Initial setup typically takes ~15 minutes. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully. (This includes firmware install and backup creation.)
Install the official Trezor Suite desktop app or use the official start page to continue in-browser. The Suite guides you through firmware installation and wallet creation with clear prompts.
Plug the Trezor into your computer, open Trezor Suite (or the official start site), and follow the “Set up my Trezor” flow. The device will prompt you to install firmware if required — this is normal and secure.
The device ships without firmware installed. Allow Suite to install the latest verified firmware — do not accept firmware from unknown sources.
Create a PIN on the device. The PIN protects the device if physically stolen. Memorize it — avoid writing the PIN on the seed card.
Write down the recovery seed (usually 12–24 words depending on model and options) on the supplied recovery card. This seed is the ONLY way to recover funds if the device is lost or damaged — keep it offline and secure.
Your recovery seed and PIN are secrets. Trezor staff, support, or recovery services will never ask for them. If anyone requests your seed or asks you to enter it on a website, stop immediately.
Store copies of your seed in multiple secure physical locations (trusted safe, deposit box). Consider using tamper-evident storage or stainless steel seed plates for extreme durability.
Only download Trezor Suite and firmware from the official Trezor site or verified GitHub repositories. Keep your computer OS and browser up to date to reduce attack surface.
If you ever need to recover, choose the “Recover wallet” flow in Suite and carefully enter your seed words in the order shown. Follow advanced recovery tools only with official guidance.
For shipping issues, warranty, or unusual errors, use the official support channels rather than third-party “help” offers.
